The Digital Era ?

Just finished reading a blog by the CEO of blackbook who deactivated his facebook account.

Blog link.

Found this blog while I was browsing tumblr.

What he essentially said made a lot of sense.

Technologies are getting more and more advanced. Every year there are new versions of smartphones, tablets, laptops, etc. People just can't seem to stay away from their phones and tablets (I'll leave the laptop out since we don't really bring our laptops around, now do we?), even for a mere 5 minutes. Especially nowadays, with phones being able to connect to the internet with data plans or with WiFi connections. It makes people glued more to their phones/tablets. It also becomes a peer pressure thing. You can easily get pressured to be connected just like your friends.

People also enjoy interacting more with others digitally rather than hanging out and meeting up face-to-face as it is more convenient to do so. And when they do meet up with others, they still can't help but constantly checking their phones every minute and second. (No objections here, your honor.... Guilty! lol)

We have becoming more and more addicted dependent to our phones, which is sad and annoying at the same time. Btw, I hate it when we're hanging out and somebody is constantly on their phone, bbm-ing and whatsapp-ing all the freaking time! Well, maybe since I don't have those (or a data plan lol) then I can say this. Who knows what I'll do once I have my data plan wekekekeke...

But seriously, people can you please stop looking at your phones for just an hour or two while we're going out and being social.. Pretty puhleeassee... It annoys me immensely. If you don't even want to go out then DON'T! It's as simple as that.

Back to the blog, I think I should propose his experiment (turned off their iPhones and Blackberrys, committing to not even glance at them until they’d left the restaurant) to my friends next we hang out and see what will happen.
Also, I sometimes want to deactivate my facebook account as I've becoming bored by it and yet I couldn't stay away. *sigh*
Maybe I should try it and stay away for a few days and see what happens when I'm away from it.. =D

We shall see...

What the Modern Woman Want

Tonight's post is going to be a tad deep and mellow. =)

While browsing away on my facebook, which btw is a rarely thing I do (usually I'm too lazy to browse other people's pages hehe), I found this note which a friend of mine has been tagged on.

The note was about an essay which won the essay competition, titled "What the Modern Woman Want".

Honestly, when I read her essay, I thought to myself, "OUCH! Got a little too close to the heart there..." LOL.. This is all true. (Just admit it you! I did heuhehhe) We often forget things due to pursuing all the so-called dreams that we have. This essay is a good way to remind ourselves or rather re-think of our goals, the way we look at life... and everything, really. And, WOW... to be reminded by a 15-yr old.. I'm ashamed of myself now.. >__>

From here on, I'll be copy-pasting everything from that note. Unfortunately, I couldn't specify the source. So, my apologies in advanced if there is anyone who feels that I'm taking their words out of their mouth hands.. In other words, please don't sue me haha..

Btw, I rearranged all the paragraphs division since I have no idea how Amanda wrote the essay exactly. The facebook note was written differently from my blog. So all mistakes are mine (and the one who posted the note LOL) =D

A 15-YEAR-OLD Singaporean, competing against 16- 18-year-olds, has won the top prize in a writing contest that drew 5,300 entries from 52 countries.

In the annual Commonwealth Essay Competition, Amanda Chong of Raffles Girls' School (Secondary) chose to compete in the older category and won with a piece on the restlessness of modern life.

Her short story, titled "What The Modern Woman Wants," focused on the conflict in values between an old lady and her independent-minded daughter.

"Through my story, I attempted to convey the unique East-vs-West struggles and generation gaps that I felt were characteristic of young people in my country," said Amanda, who likes drama, history and literature and wants to become a lawyer and a politician.

Chief examiner Charles Kemp called her piece a "powerfully moving and ironical critique of modern restlessness and its potentially cruel consequences". The writing is fluent and assured, with excellent use of dialogue.

Amanda gets (S$1,590). A Singaporean last won the top prize in 2000, said Britain's Royal Commonwealth Society, which has been organising the competition since 1883. Singaporeans also came in second in the 14 to 15-year-old category, and fourth in the under-12s. Other winners included students from Australia , Canada and South Africa.

What the Modern Woman Wants

By Amanda Chong Wei-Zhen

The old woman sat in the backseat of the magenta convertible as it careened down the highway, clutching tightly to the plastic bag on her lap, afraid it may be kidnapped by the wind.

She was not used to such speed, with trembling hands she pulled the seat belt tighter but was careful not to touch the patent leather seats with her callused fingers, her daughter had warned her not to dirty it, "Fingerprints show very clearly on white, Ma."

Her daughter, Bee Choo, was driving and talking on her sleek silver mobile phone using big words the old woman could barely understand.'Finance', 'Liquidation', 'Assets', 'Investments'... Her voice was crisp and important and had an unfamiliar lilt to it.

Her Bee Choo sounded like one of those foreign girls on television. She was speaking in an American accent. The old lady clucked her tongue in disapproval...

"I absolutely cannot have this. We have to sell!" Her daughter exclaimed agitatedly as she stepped on the accelerator; her perfectly manicured fingernails gripping onto the steering wheel in irritation.

"I can't DEAL with this anymore!" she yelled as she clicked the phone shut and hurled it angrily toward the backseat. The mobile phone hit the old woman on the forehead and nestled soundlessly into her lap. She calmly picked it up and handed it to her daughter.

"Sorry, Ma," she said, losing the American pretence and switching to Mandarin. "I have a big client in America . There have been a lot of problems." The old lady nodded knowingly. Her daughter was big and important.

Bee Choo stared at her mother from the rear view window, wondering what she was thinking. Her mother's wrinkled countenance always carried the same cryptic look.

The phone began to ring again, an artificially cheerful digital tune, which broke the awkward silence.

"Hello, Beatrice! Yes, this is Elaine."

Elaine. The old woman cringed. I didn't name her Elaine. She remembered her daughter telling her, how an English name was very important for 'networking', Chinese ones being easily forgotten.

"Oh no, I can't see you for lunch today. I have to take the ancient relic to the temple for her weird daily prayer ritual." Ancient Relic. The old woman understood perfectly it was referring to her. Her daughter always assumed that her mother's silence meant she did not comprehend.

"Yes, I know! My car seats will be reeking of joss sticks!" The old woman pursed her lips tightly, her hands gripping her plastic bag in defence. The car curved smoothly into the temple courtyard. It looked almost garish next to the dull sheen of the aging temple's roof.

The old woman got out of the back seat, and made her unhurried way to the main hall. Her daughter stepped out of the car in her business suit and stilettos and reapplied her lipstick as she made her brisk way to her mother's side.

"Ma, I'll wait outside.. I have an important phone call to make," she said, not bothering to hide her disgust at the pungent fumes of incense.

The old lady hobbled into the temple hall and lit a joss stick, she knelt down solemnly and whispered her now familiar daily prayer to the Gods.

"Thank you God of the Sky, you have given my daughter luck all these years. Everything I prayed for, you have given her. She has everything a young woman in this world could possibly want."

"She has a big house with a swimming pool, a maid to help her, as she is too clumsy to sew or cook. Her love life has been blessed; she is engaged to a rich and handsome angmoh man."

"Her company is now the top financial firm and even men listen to what she says... She lives the perfect life. You have given her everything except happiness. I ask that the gods be merciful to her even if she has lost her roots while reaping the harvest of success."

"What you see is not true, she is a filial daughter to me. She gives me a room in her big house and provides well for me. She is rude to me only because I affect her happiness. A young woman does not want to be hindered by her old mother. It is my fault."

The old lady prayed so hard that tears welled up in her eyes. Finally, with her head bowed in reverence she planted the half-burnt joss stick into an urn of smoldering ashes.

She bowed once more. The old woman had been praying for her daughter for thirty-two years. When her stomach was round like a melon, she came to the temple and prayed that it was a son.

Then the time was ripe and the baby slipped out of her womb, bawling and adorable with fat thighs and pink cheeks, but unmistakably, a girl. Her husband had ticked and punched her for producing a useless baby who could not work or carry the family name.

Still, the woman returned to the temple with her new-born girl tied to her waist in a sarong and prayed that her daughter would grow up and have everything she ever wanted.

Her husband left her and she prayed that her daughter would never have to depend on a man. She prayed every day that her daughter would be a great woman, the woman that she, meek and uneducated, could never become.

A woman with 'neng kan'; the ability to do anything she set her mind to. A woman who commanded respect in the hearts of men. When she opened her mouth to speak, precious pearls would fall out and men would listen.

She will not be like me, the woman prayed as she watched her daughter grow up and drift away from her, speaking a language she scarcely understood.

She watched her daughter transform from a quiet girl to one who openly defied her, calling her laotu, old fashioned.... She wanted her mother to be 'modern', a word so new there was no Chinese word for it.

Now her daughter was too clever for her and the old woman wondered why she had prayed like that. The Gods had been faithful to her persistent prayer, but the wealth and success that poured forth so richly had buried the girl's roots and now she stood faceless with no identity, bound to the soil of her ancestors by only a string of origami banknotes.

Her daughter had forgotten her mother's value. Her wants were so ephemeral, that of a modern woman. Power, wealth, access to the best fashion boutiques and yet her daughter had not found true happiness. The old woman knew that you could find happiness with much less.

When her daughter left the earth, everything she had would count for nothing. People would look to her legacy and say that she was a great woman but she would be forgotten once the wind blows over, like the ashes of burnt paper convertibles and mansions.

The old woman wished she could go back and erase all her big hopes and prayers for her daughter now that she had looked out of the temple gates. She saw her daughter speaking on the phone, her brow furrowed with anger and worry. Being at the top is not good, the woman thought, there is only one way to go from there – down.

The old woman carefully unfolded the plastic bag and spread out a packet of beehoon in front of the altar. Her daughter often mocked her for worshiping porcelain Gods. How could she pray to them so faithfully and expect pieces of ceramic to fly to her aid?

But her daughter had her own gods too, idols of wealth, success and power that she enslaved to and worshiped every day of her life. Every day was a quest for the idols, and the idols she worshiped counted for nothing in eternity. All the wants her daughter had would slowly suck the life out of her and leave her, an empty souless shell at the altar.

The old woman watched the joss stick. The dull heat had left a teetering grey stem that was on the danger of collapsing.

Modern woman nowadays, the old lady sighed in resignation, as she bowed to the east bone a final time to end her ritual. Modern woman nowadays want so much that they lose their souls and wonder why they cannot find it.

Her joss stick disintegrated into a soft grey powder. She met her daughter outside the temple, the same look of worry and frustration was etched on her daughter's face. An empty expression, as if she was ploughing through the soil of her wants looking for the one thing that would sow the seeds of happiness.

They climbed into the convertible in silence and her daughter drove along the highway, this time not too fast as she had done before.

"Ma," Bee Choo finally said. "I don't know how to put this. Mark and I have been talking about it and we plan to move out of the big house. The property market is good now, and we managed to get a buyer willing to pay us seven million for it. We decided we'd prefer a cosier penthouse apartment instead. We found a perfect one in Orchard Road. Once we move into our apartment, we plan to get rid of the maid, so we can have more space to ourselves..."

The old woman nodded knowingly. Bee Choo swallowed hard.

"We'd get someone to come in to do the housework and we can eat out – but once the maid is gone, there won't be anyone to look after you. You will be awfully lonely at home and, besides that the apartment is rather small. There won't be space. We thought about it for a long time, and we decided the best thing for you is if you moved to a Home. There's one near Hougang – it's a Christian home and a very nice one."

The old woman did not raise an eyebrow.

"I"ve been there, the matron is willing to take you in. It's beautiful with gardens and lots of old people to keep you company! Hardly have time for you, you'd be happier there. You'd be happier there, really." her daughter repeated as if to affirm herself.

This time the old woman had no plastic bag of food offering to cling tightly to, she bit her lip and fastened her seat belt, as if it would protect her from a daughter who did not want her anymore. She sunk deep into the leather seat, letting her shoulders sag and her fingers trace the white seat.

"Ma," her daughter asked, searching the rear view window for her mother. "Is everything okay?"

What had to be done, had to be done.

"Yes", she said firmly, louder than she intended, "If it will make you happy," she added more quietly.

"It's for you, Ma! You will be happier there. You can move there tomorrow, I already got the maid to pack your things." Elaine said triumphantly, mentally ticking yet another item off her agenda.

"I knew everything would be fine." Elaine smiled widely; she felt liberated. Perhaps getting rid of her mother would make her happier... She had thought about it. It seemed the only hindrance in her pursuit of happiness. She was happy now. She had everything a modern woman ever wanted; money, status, career, love, power and now freedom without her mother and her old-fashioned ways to weigh her down...

Yes she was free. Her phone butted urgently, she picked it up and read the message, still beaming from ear to ear.

"Stock 10% increase."

Yes, things were definitely beginning to look up for her and while searching for the meaning of life in the luminance of her hand phone screen, the old woman in the backseat became invisible and she did not see her in tears.

Korean Drama Reviews

Ok, 1 last post before I start studying..heuheuheehe..

Finally, finished watching Secret Garden, Mary Stayed Out All Night, and The Woman who still Wants to Marry. Yes, watched 3 dramas all at once. Did I get confuse and headache? No, I didn't since I'm such a smart and awesome person. =p

First off, Mary Stayed Out All Night... HUGE and I mean H.U.G.E. disappointment!!! WTF! Wasted my precious time and my bandwidth watching this ridiculous drama. I was so ready to hit, bang, and throw my laptop watching this drama. And that guy (forgot his name) walked funny. How long can you drag this thing out anyway?! Really? Did you really need all 16 episodes!?! Hell no, you didn't! Gosh! Had to watch it til the end though as my OCD came out and I didn't feel good if I didn't finish it. Grrr!

Second, The Woman who still Wants to Marry. I actually watched the first 5-6 epis early last year. For some unknown (forgotten) reason, I stopped watching it.
Rewatched it again from the beginning. Wonder why there wasn't that many rave about it since this drama is actually quite good, even if it kinda dragged a little towards the end. But, boy.. what an underestimated drama! All the ladies, esp the late 20s and early 30s, could all relate to it haha.. And for the bonus, there's that cutie Kim Bum.. XD

Hmm.. what would I do if I catch a cute 10-yr younger boyfriend like KimBum...Hmm... ʘ‿ʘ kekekeke (^o^)

Lastly, the uber famous Secret Garden with Hyunbin and Ha Ji Won. Gosh Hyunbin lost a LOT of weight in this drama -- still good looking though. I actually kinda like him this way haha.. If I'd known what it's all about, I might not watch it since the story line is somewhat eh... >.>
However, seeing how all the ppl raved about it and the-uberly-yummy-and-delish-Hyunbin is in it, I gave it a try after the 16th subbed epi was out. **I hate waiting every week for new epi to come out**
Man, was I hooked! Couldn't stop watching it and ended up finished all 16 epis in 2 days and became a zombie-like in the office.
Sadly, after all that goodness, the last 4 epis (esp the last 2) were all...eh...alright.

Hate it when they do this (Why PD?? WHY?!), and sadly most KR dramas are this way. They got us hooked in the early phase and then dropped us all from 100th story building (ouch!) and gave us a draggy, annoying, flat, unmemorable, disappointing, and sometimes horrible second half of the drama and/or ending!! WTH!

Okay, no more dramas for me, for now anyway. Need to get my priorities right.

FOCUS!

Random Thoughts in the Start of 2011!!!

Wow, 2011 already!!

And here I am, still sore from Insanity (redoing it after I skipped it for a couple of weeks.. So, it's my 1st day all over again! Yeah, I know.. SUCKS! >_>), blogging instead of studying for my GRE.

I've decided to take GRE after failing the GMAT test big time! LOL.
Can't believe how insanely hard the math is!!!!

Is it me being older and stupider; forgetting everything since I have graduated for a few years; or is the GMAT math is completely irrational and doesn't make any sense (to my logic anyway)?!?! It's the latter, I'm telling ya! Trust me on this! =p

Anyway, I failed it big time and I didn't hear back from UTD..lol. So, I'm assuming (geez Je! I don't think I even need to make an assumption haha) that I got rejected!
Btw, I hate that stupid-irritating-and-who-doesn't-give-a-damn-to-the-students UTD's School of Management Graduate Advisor whose initial is LH! Hateherhateherhateherhateher to the core!!

I'm going to enroll as a non-degree seeker for the second half of the semester and transfer my credit into the program after I got accepted to the program then. HA!

In any case, I'm changing my mind and going to do MA of Interdisciplinary Studies instead of MBA as I can do 3 majors in that program. What 3 majors you asked? Well, I know 1 major for sure and will think of the other 2 later on..;p For sure though, no MA/S in Accounting for me.. bleh.

Gosh, why do I always crave for foods whenever I'm going on a diet when I'm perfectly fine not craving anything when I'm not trying to lose weight?! WHY?!?

Thanks God, almost all of the foods I'm craving are Indonesian foods. Since I'm such a lazy bum; can't buy them (or at least the delish ones anyways); can't asked those ladies to make some for me; AND also Indonesian foods are too damn complicated to make.. I don't need to eat those rich foods ahahaha.. But what to do with all these cravings??? Luckily, I'm not pregnant. If I was, my kid will drool all his/her life LOL. And... yes.. I'm accepting those Indonesian foods if you're willing to make 'em for me.. @_@

OH! Since we're all craving martabak manis, we tried to make it. The result is.......... FAILED miserably!! Made 2 different recipes. Both of them failed. They didn't even look like how martabak should look like. =( Masa mesti gue panggil abangnya seh buat bikinin gue martabak?? Halaahhhh....

While I'm blabbering on food, I finally tried Peruvian foods on lunch today (free lunch at that too! Thanks Boss! =D). It's actually good! I like it much better than Colombian foods. Hmm.. or is it that Colombian restaurant doesn't have good food?? Oh well... thing is, I like the Peruvian foods.

Also tried a new (? -- that's what yelp says) Caribbean restaurant over the weekend. This one was a different restaurant from the first one I tried last year. The first one is better, I think. However, this one looks much cleaner than the last one haha.

Last thought, I need to lose at least 20 lbs by this spring/summer! Yeah! I can do it of course! >.<

Alrighty then, I think I need to stop this randomness and actually go use my time to study the damn GRE. Sigh.

Gym + Late Night = Sleepiness

Apparently, the studies are correct all this time.

Going to the gym before you sleep is not good for your sleep pattern.

...Worked out until 10PM-ish.

...Insomnia.

...Slept around 3AM.

...VERY sleepy at work.

Lesson learned.

Resolutions? What Resolutions??

Since it's already April and since I'm taking an afternoon break from my work, I thought I'd do some checking on my new year resolution list. Gosh, can you believe it's April already?!

Here goes nothing:

1. Save MORE money, shop LESS. I'm on it. Really.

2. Hurry take the stupid GMAT test and apply for the grad school. Err.. I will, eventually. Oh well, ready or not have to take it next month. DANG! that's...that's.....that's just around the corner, it's less than a month!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Crap!

3. Go to the gym. So far? Need to ask? *sigh*

4. Regularly write in my hand-written diary/journal. Thought I'd do this since I found a cute journal - failed miserably. Only wrote 1 page, so far.

5. Start blogging again. Failed? Not really, I'm blogging right now, aren't I?

6. Make new friends, find new crowds to hang out with, etc. Hmm.. somewhat there, but not really.

7. Start doing my side jobs. A girl always needs some extra money for new shoes and bags and clothes and make up and accessories and so on, correct? ;D [OH! That reminds me that I haven't been to Nordstrom lately to check on their shoes sales!!] Let's see.... as of today, haven't started anything yet. Well, I kinda did but then I stopped in the middle. Need.to.get.rid.laziness.

Um, what else? I don't remember much now since I didn't write down any of it in the first place. heuhehhe..

Oh well.

Ah, The Good Ol' Days

Went to lunch out a few days ago with Opiet, a close friend since college.

Such a nice weather...
Don't really want to go back to the office. But life is not fair, is it?

Lunching out with her brought back all the memories from college. All the things we used to do.

...Skipping class to go out to eat for as long as I want, provided the weather is nice of course, otherwise just go back to bed and skip the class kekeke..

...Frantically cramming for exams and papers.

...Waking up after 3 hours of sleep because you had to finish preparing the presentations - absolute nightmare as you can't even think straight, let alone answering the questions.

...The best thing of all though, is having times to run errands or do nothing and just lazing around. Missed those times..

Oh! Come fall I'll be back in college for grad school. But it won't be the same. School and work full time? Ugghh.... bleh..

So not looking forward to it.

After all, memories are best left as that. Memories.

What a simple life we had back then....

Classes I Wish were Offered Back in College

Started from sharing useless websites that my friends and I found everyday during work. Yes, we do work... I stumbled into this website.

It's a blog of a list of college classes in several colleges that I didn't even think would be acknowledged by the colleges.

Those classes are: Oh, for further descriptions of these classes, just click on the above link, will ya... Too lazy to type the whole thing, besides technically, I'm still working.. hihihi.. *sigh.. an hour to go*

1. The Horror Film in Context (Bowdoin)

2. Simpsons and Philosophy (Cal-Berkeley)
-- Ah... Homer and his philosophies on donuts and beers... XD

3. Maple Syrup – The Real Thing (Alfred)

4. The Science of Harry Potter (Frostburg State)
-- Think about it... INVISIBILITY CLOAK might just be exists!! hehuehhuee

5. Oprah Winfrey – The Tycoon (U. of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign)
-- Well duh! Oprah is from Chicago... Of course they have to have this one......

6. Far Side Entomology (Oregon State)

7. History of Electronic Dance Music (UCLA)

8. The Future is Lost: TV Series as Cultural Phenomenon (Tufts)

9. Goldberg’s Canon: Makin’ Whoopi (Bates)

10. Muppet Magic: Jim Henson’s Art (UC-Santa Cruz)

11. Getting Dressed (Princeton)

12. Biblical Model for Home and Family (Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary)

My personal faves that I really wish were in my college are no. 2, 4, and 11.

No. 5 is a crappy class... I don't wanna talk about Oprah every time I go to class. I only want to go to her Christmas show, Oprah's Favorite Things. She always gives away lots of stuff on that particular show. haha..

Man... I could have gotten straight As all the way if my classes were like these... lol..

Digigit Anjing Untuk yang Pertama Kalinya dan Semoga Untuk yang Terakhir Kalinya... Amin!!

Weekend kemaren tuh long weekend. Jadinya gue cuma nyante2 di rumah... jarang2 bisa nyante2 di rumah berhari2 wakakaka...

Hari Sabtu malem, kita makan malam rame2 karena si Denny mo pindah ke San Antonio hari Minggunya. Abis makan gue, Denny, Stanley maen ke rumah Opiet & Sugi.

Kita nonton Mall Cop - oklah filmnya - trus abis nonton, si Denny lagi maen2 ama Bear, anjing chow2nya Opiet-Sugi. Oiyeh mereka punya ini chow2 dan 1 husky.

Gue tau seh si Bear ini gak demen orang, gue udah sering gitu loohh ke rumahnya mereka. Tapi si Denny lage maen2 ama si Bear depan2an ama Sugi, si Denny bilang "coba nih pegang, gpp kok.."

Oh shit dan begonya gue (seriously, I was such a moron that night.. gue udah tauuuuu gitu lohh ini anjing reseh!!), gue pegang palanya.. EH NGEHE INI ANJING!! langsung gigit gue!!!

Gue rasa kalo si Bear sampe lari ngejar gue, si Stanley bakal kabur duluan deh heuhuehuehuhe..

Abis itu Opiet keluar kamar, nanya ada apaan. Dia lsg ngomel2, "kenapa gak lsg kamu gebuk si Bear gi?!? Gebuk yg keras sampe dia nangis2!!" heuhuehe..

Udah gitu luka gue dipakein tieh ta yao gin... ugghh.. buat elo2 yg tau itu obat China, elo pada pasti tau donk kalo luka dipakein itu rasanya kae apa... udah kae luka lo ditaroin garam!! haram jadah perihnya!!

Hiixxx... mata gue udah berkaca2.. malu kalo nangis wakakaka... ^^

O: Gimana seh?
S: Yah si Denny suruh si J pegang Bear, "tuh gpp kok gue jg pegang2 bear"
O: Kamu emang dimana?
S: di depannya J
O: kok gak suruh jangan pegang seh?
S: ada setan lewat.. soalnya aku bisa gak bereaksi ama sekali.

DUERRR... OMG Gi!! Jawaban lo sumpeh ancur abis heuhuhuehuheuehueh... ada setan lewat...wakakaka..

Kata Matthan, "kayak lagi ngaku dosa ke camer aja kalo anaknya dihamilin.. ada setan lewat." wakakakka..

Komen gak penting dari Matthan lage:
M: elo juga sih jee.. namanya juga anjing. biarpun anjing yg gigit, tetep manusia yg salah
J: salah gimana?!?
M: either salah org yg digigit ato yg punya anjing
J:org gue gak ngapa2in gitu!! Cuma gue pegang palanya, gak gue cekek
M: hahaha..

Trus gue cerita ke Gletwin kalo gue digigit anjing, ini anak jg komennya gak mutu banget!!
J: Jek, gue digigit anjing
G: oyah?? lu dikira bacon kali
J: taee loo... bacon my ass!
G: hauhuahuaha..
J: iyah tangan gue lsg gue tarik dan dia loncat jadinya kena perut bawah kanan gue
G: PAS! where the samcan is!! hauhuahuahua..
J: ah ngehe lu..
G: Gue lage ngebayangin anjingnya pas di pegang kepalanya... "hmm... ada makanan..bacoonn.."
J: reseh lu!
G: ahuahua.. lu bikin gue ngakak..
G: abis kan yah chow2 kan lucu...n bayangin elu jadi bacon, hmmmm bacon... HAAAAAAPpppppp...aheuoaeaeahe
J: sampahlah looo..
G: eehhh mestinya lu berharap tuh yah
G: di gigit ampe putuuuuuuusssss biar ilang berat badan hauhuaheuhuehuha
J: putus jadi bolong.. bloon lu..
G: iyaahh... kan jadi ilang berat badan. lu bayangin aja.. dah sakit ga putus pula hauhuahuhauhaehuhe..

One Unforgetful Night

As the title of my blog shows this time, that night was indeed one of my unforgetful ones.

We had dinner that Saturday, around Halloween's day (was it on halloween? can't remember) at Blue House - Korean restaurant.

It was a farewell for Chia who's moving to Kenya (shout out to Chia who's living in her pink hut over there in lalaland hueuhee) to follow her hubby.

Anway, we finished dinner and we hang for a lil bit outside the restaurant. Talking and were taking pics. Just doing our business.

Then, this Korean lady with a pissed-off-looking face walked out from the restaurant, went to the car, went out of the car again, and started to walk back to the side of the restaurant.
The restaurant was an L-shaped looking... get it?

Next, she started to shout and yelling in Korean like she was mad. We were like, what in the world is going on??? We were peaking to the side to see what was going on..
I asked my friend to translate it.. lol... he didn't want to.. bleh..
Anyway, he said that it was something about having an affair, getting a divorce and whatnot.

**thinking: Hmmm.. it's starting to get reallyyy interesting....hiihhi...**

And so, we were starting to leave since the yelling is getting louder and louder each time and since we need to go to the haunted house before it gets too crowded.
Btw, the lady was the only one who did the shouting. The man she was yelling to was just sitting there, smoking, and ignoring her.

As we were walking to our cars, this lady walked to her car and started to back up. So we moved away from her car, which btw parked in front of us when we were chatting and all.
And then.... this happened....

That crazy and mad lady HIT that guy (who was sitting on a bench and smoking) with the car and then ran away!!!!!

He started to scream (duh! obviously! who wouldn't?!)...

We were staring at that crazy incident and were just standing there speechless and thinking, "Am I seeing right?? Did that just happen??? For real???".
A second later, we were running to that guy and see if he's ok. People were pouring out of the restaurant too.
People were yelling to get somebody to call 911 and all.. It was like in the movie...lol..
Turned out Chia called the 911. So, we couldn't go anywhere until the police came.

We were like.. dang it Chia! "Why can't you let somebody else call 911? Now we have to wait here and deal with the police while the others are gone."

Dude... seriously... as soon as they know that the police is coming..... THEY HID THEMSELVES RIGHT AWAY!! Even the hit guy was carried by somebody on a BMW to the "hospital" (who knows where they went)!!

We were like, "Yea Chia, even the guy who was hit ran away as soon as he hears the police coming. Oh well.. "

Unfortunately, I was in their car, who needed to wait til the police came. The other 2 cars went away already.. dang it! I didn't want to deal with the police and craps too... T_T Luckily, we didn't need to be "witnesses" and whatnot. So, that ends there. =)

Anyway, the police came and didn't let us go away until he said so. At this time, there was nobody...nobody.... in the crime scene.

I walked to my friend's car and waited there...lol... ^^

After a lil' bit we were let go and went to the haunted house. This one which we went was actually awesome and scary!! Unlike the other ones that I went.

And then we went clubbing huehuehuhe... I was upset of this unplanned clubbing thing... I was like a train wreck!! =(

All in all.... I will never forget that night... EVER!

** I wonder if they caught that crazy lady... Hmmm.... **

A weird thing happened. While I was doing the multiplication part, suddenly it went off and a notice showed up: "We're sorry. We're unable to process a multiplication this fast. Please go back on your browser and try again."

Well, apparently I'm too smart for the website. LOL! XD

Don't know how long I'll play this game. Maybe until I have to leave.

Another One Collapsed!

Just after a week or so after Lehman collapsed and AIG was bailed out, and now WaMu was closed by the government today! Just read the news a minute ago.

Dang! was thinking of buying some of WaMu's stock since Citibank and several others, including JP Morgan who bought it, were looking into bidding for WaMu.
WoW! Luckily, I was only thinking of buying it and actually buy it... huehuheue.. Who knows this would happened now. I don't wanna be my friend's friend who blew 20k over Lehman stocks...=S
Boggles your mind, ain't it?! I actually thought that since several banks were looking to bid for it, the stock will go up, like in some other cases.. ^__^

This morning, or rather yesterday in Asia's time, people in Hong Kong were lining up at Bank of East Asia to withdraw their money after rumors went around. At the end, people were calmer since HK business tycoon Li Ka-Shing bought its shares. Read it here.

We are in (not going into anymore, mind you) recession now. And you could actually see it all over the place. People are getting laid off. Speaking of lay offs, GE in Seattle (not too sure about other GE, but they are losing money according to the news) just laid off some people and my uncle is one of them =(; Deloitte Dallas laid off some in their accounting dept not too long ago; Alcatel also laid off some people a while back (a friend of mine was one of the people who took the voluntary package they offered, her job is sent to Mexico now =S).
And there's talk about HP wanting to cut over 24,000 jobs. *sigh*

IMHO, we don't really feel the recession in Dallas as much as other cities in other states. Sure gas prices are increasing (it increased again after down for about 50 cents/gallon) and there's shortage in some area in here, but that's due to hurricane Ike. News broadcasted that beware of your fuel tanks and to let it as full as you possibly can do.

That reminds me I need to fill up my gas tomorrow hehehe..

Anyways, it's getting hard to get a job, getting hard to buy a house and get a mortgage (it's ridiculously hard to get a mortgage nowadays...gosh talked about being anxious of bad creditors.. why weren't they being anxious BEFORE all this crap happens? And they said that those people are genius...=S), getting very anxious and unsure of what's coming next....

Now, what I need to do is, suppress my shopaholic illness ^__^, stop eating out too much, and save all my money!!

Oohh I need to buy that huge piggy bank like the one I saw in We Got Married.

Oh no! stop it! Can't buy it, it's wasting money... but... but... but.. I need some place to put my money right? If I put it in the bank, I'll just keep taking it out... and then I won't have money saved.
Excuses...excuses...excuses.... what a shopaholic! lol..

Seriously, I'm on my resolution to save more money hohohohoh...

Well then, good luck to me!

~~Jessica out! *copying Ryan Seacrest heuheuhe*

Yogurtland

I had noticed this store before but I kept forgetting to check it out whenever I went grocery shopping at H-Mart (new korean mart, it's hugeeee!).
Then, while Priscil was checking out Soompi, she mentioned a review for Yogurtland. So, last weekend we checked it out and tried the yogurt. I think they just opened since there's a grand opening sign outside...

Hmm.. so when I noticed it, it wasn't opened yet??

Yogurtland is a self-serve yogurt place.

You go in line to get any kind of flavored yogurt you want, then go to the toppings section and put on as many toppings as you want, and then pay.

Price is by the ounces. It is 30 cents per ounce.

I had coffee (or cafe latte? whichever), pistachio, and blueberry yogurt. For toppings, I had watermelon (haha I know it's weird, but I thought might as well try it - yogurt with watermelon ;p), blueberry, melon, strawberry, almonds, peanuts.

I like all mine. Blueberry is soury, so if you don't like sour like Priscil, you probably won't like it.

Priscil had strawberry (which I don't like), green tea, and cheesecake yogurt. I don't remember what toppings she had.

They provide fruits and other things for toppings (several kinds of cereal, granola, choco chips, peanuts, walnuts, almonds, etc... don't remember all of them).
